How do I go about donating my car or vehicle?
Simply call 1-855-565-5599 or fill out this form. We’ll take care of everything for you. It really is that simple!
You can donate nearly any car or vehicle you own to the station as long as the car or vehicle has an engine and is towable and you have a signed, clear title in your name with no liens on it.
If you have lost your title, just visit a State of Arizona Motor Vehicle Division (MVD) office, complete a title application, and check the “Title Only” and “Duplicate” boxes on the top of the form. Be prepared to show a photo ID, such as your driver’s license or state ID card. The MVD will issue you a duplicate title for $4. Unfortunately, KJZZ cannot help you with this process.
You do not have to be present at the time of pickup as special arrangements can be made by calling our representative.
Justin R. Beaudry donated his Toyota Corolla to KJZZ. Here’s what he said after the tow truck left: “It was picked up today: the first car I ever bought brand new, by myself. KJZZ, I truly hope someone buys it at auction for a couple million, ’cause you all deserve all the funding you could ever hope for. I finally started listening to KJZZ in 2016 and eventually heard an amazing story. Our family became a sustaining member in 2017. And now car donation instead of trade-in.”
Amanda Whatley recently donated her 2003 Toyota Corolla and said this: “The process was very easy and clear! I will recommend it to everyone I know. Veronica, my car, has been a very important part of my life. She accompanied me through so many important moments: college graduation, first jobs and career changes, marriage, moving halfway across Texas and then the country, on happy days and through sad times. I’m just so appreciative that at the end of our road together, she could contribute to something I care about deeply, my local NPR station.”
What are the advantages of donating my car or vehicle?
You will avoid the stressful process of selling your car or vehicle. That means:
- no advertising
- no getting your car or vehicle appraised
- no communicating with potential buyers
- no paying for registration, inspection, insurance, or repairs
- no dealing with taxes after the sale is closed
You won’t even have to pay for the tow truck when KJZZ picks up your donation!
If your donation sells for less than $500, you can write off $500, regardless of what your car or vehicle sold for, on your tax return. For example, if your donation sells for $350, you can write off $500. The receipt provided to you at the time of pickup will serve as your tax receipt.
If your donation sells for more than $500, you can write off the gross proceeds raised from its sale. You won’t have the burden of determining the value of your vehicle yourself because we’ll mail you an IRS Form 1098-C, “Contributions of Motor Vehicles, Boats, and Airplanes,” within one month of the sale stating the amount of gross proceeds received for your donation, provided it sold for more than $500.
Donations committed by midnight on December 31st are considered donations for that tax year, even if the vehicle is picked up and sold after January 1st.
