TransBorder Unit: Dominican Republic

The Show on KJZZ

Listen live weekdays at 9 a.m.

In February, the KJZZ TransBorder Unit traveled to the Dominican Republic in search of hidden stories that connect Arizona to this Caribbean island. We explored immigration, MLB Baseball Academies, music … and hair! Join KJZZ journalists and community leaders Lisa Urias (President/CEO, Urias Communications) & Dr. Maria Harper-Marinick (Chancellor, Maricopa Community Colleges) for this live worldwide video broadcast. Be part of this Town Hall Forum that will speak to citizens of the world.

TransBorder Unit: Colombia

Please join us as an audience member for the live video broadcast of our town hall meeting on Thursday, March 24: The TransBorder Unit: Colombia.

The TRANSBORDER UNIT is one of KJZZ's newest innovations, creating an opportunity for community leaders to investigate broad issues, probing beyond our borders.  Our first team explored a diverse set of topics, ranging from micro-lending in Colombia to the Team Rentería Baseball Academy (a training center in Barranquilla for players who aspire to play for the big leagues).

Alongside seasoned journalists, our community leaders-turned-explorers gained hands-on insight into the editorial process, as they traveled with reporters from KJZZ News and La Voz (Phoenix's Spanish language newspaper).  These leaders will share their observations with our live audience … and the world:

  • Todd Sanders, President & CEO, Greater Phoenix Chamber of Commerce
  • Jaime Molera, Partner, Molera Alvarez, Former Arizona Superintendent of Public Instruction
  • Josh Rawitch, Senior Vice President, Communications, Arizona Diamondbacks

This is a rare, first time, opportunity to see what happens when we combine community leaders with professional journalists working to find hidden stories, as they share those stories with fellow citizens back home.

During this town hall meeting, we'll also see the work of our TransBorder Unit reporters, who have produced several stories for broadcast and print. You'll come away from this town hall meeting with a better understanding of another country in the Americas: a country fighting its reputation as a narco-trafficking capital immersed in a civil war – trying to become a country known instead for its innovation and its culture.

During this broadcast, we will also entertain questions from both our live audience and viewers worldwide.  Seating for our live audience is limited, so if you are interested in joining us in person, I urge you to RSVP quickly.
