How Positive Train Control Can Prevent Accidents
Over the weekend, an Amtrak train ran into a parked CSX freight train in South Carolina, resulting in the deaths of two Amtrak employees.
While CSX issued condolences, they did not take the blame for the incident. The National Transportation Safety Board concluded a switch was in the wrong position.
This is the third deadly accident involving an Amtrak train in the last three months. But could these accidents have been prevented? Some say yes, if a system called Positive Train Control was in place.
