The deadline for ‘Dreamers’ to renew their status under the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program passed Thursday. But, today, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services reports that about a quarter of those eligible to renew didn’t. That’s despite concerted efforts to get recipients organized and their applications in on time.

This, of course, all comes after President Trump decided to rescind the program that President Obama instituted in 2012 which allows young immigrants who were brought to the U.S. illegally as children to stay and work in the country.

So, why did so many — roughly 36,000 DACA recipients — fail to renew? To talk more about that, we’re joined by Angela Banks, a professor of law at ASU’s Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law.
