Grumpy Cat, Who Entertained Millions Online, Dies At Age 7
Friday morning, The Show got word that an Arizona icon passed away in her sleep.
She’s not a politician or a historian or a musician — but she’s definitely an icon of sorts — she’s Grumpy Cat. The mixed breed kitty with feline dwarfism from Morristown, Arizona that took the internet by storm has said her final meow.
Grumpy Cat, whose name was really Tardar Sauce, gained online fame around 2013 when her owner posted a photo of her with her famous scowl on Reddit. The internet ate it up, turning her into a meme to easily express grumpy thoughts and even winning “Meme of the Year” at that year’s Webby awards.
The fame didn’t end there for the sourpuss. She quickly took over television screens, becoming the official spokescat for Friskies, and even staring in her own Lifetime Christmas movie called “Grumpy Cat’s Worst Christmas Ever.”
While many people post photos of their cats on Instagram accounts, Grumpy Cat earned her owner over $100 million through her legendary Instagram page.
Her owners wrote that she experienced complications from a urinary tract infection and "passed away peacefully" Tuesday "in the arms of her mommy." She was seven.
