The Court Ruling For Medicaid Expansion Raises Opposing Views

The Arizona Supreme Court this week ruled a group of state lawmakers does have standing to sue over the funding mechanism for Arizona’s Medicaid expansion. The legislators argue it’s a tax, which under the state constitution requires a two-thirds vote in both chambers to pass. The plan received a simple majority.
Christina Sandefur is senior attorney at the Goldwater Institute and is representing the 36 lawmakers challenging the hospital assessment. Not surprisingly, expansion supporters see things differently.
