Jaime Rodriguez Sr./U.S. Customs and Border Protection
Commissioner Kevin K. McAleenan and United States Border Patrol Chief of Operations Brian Hastings discuss the current migration trends the agency encounters, emphasizing the large uptick in family unit apprehensions on March 5, 2019.

The Trump administration has implemented strong policies — labeled "draconian" by some — to limit undocumented immigration across the U.S.-Mexico border.

But the latest numbers from Customs and Border Protection show those policies may be having the opposite effect.

In February, record numbers of undocumented border crossings were recorded, and those included an unprecedented number of so-called "large groups" of at least 100 people.

To talk about the numbers and the policies, Sarah Pierce, policy analyst for the Migration Policy Institute, joined The Show.
