The debate over the future of the Suns in Phoenix came to a head last week as the NBA franchise and the city revealed their plans to upgrade Talking Stick Resort Arena in downtown Phoenix.

While the team’s owner insists the Suns aren’t going anywhere, some remain skeptical.

Journalist Neil DeMause is the author of the book and accompanying website called “Field of Schemes,” which tracks public money spent on sports stadiums.

“It’s entirely possible for a sports team owner to simultaneously say, ‘I want to 100 percent keep this team in town,' and at the same time be saying, privately, 'I will move this team if I don’t get what I want’ — and to believe both of those [things],” said DeMause.

Phoenix leaders will once consider the plan in January with a series of meetings to gather public in between.
