A 53-year-old woman is alive after her car plunged off the side of a highway near Wickenburg. She spent six days on her own before being discovered.

No one had reported the crash when Zachary Moralez found himself on U.S. 60 investigating a loose bull earlier this month.

After clearing everything up, Moralez, who works for the Arizona Department of Transportation, noticed something weird along the highway.

“There was a hole in the fence and skid marks going off to the side,” he said.

Moralez and his rancher brother, David, found the woman’s vehicle lodged in a mesquite tree 50 feet below the roadway. They called in for more help.

After combing the area, Moralez said David and a trooper found footprints, leading to the alert but tired and dehydrated driver.

“She’d kind of lost all hope at that point, so we were — believe we were put in the right place at the right time,” Moralez said.

The woman was airlifted to a Valley hospital, where she was treated for serious injuries.
