David And Gladys Wright House In Phoenix’s Arcadia Neighborhood Back On Market
The David and Gladys Wright House in Phoenix’s Arcadia neighborhood is back on the market.
The owner, Zach Rawling, is listing the house for nearly $13 million.
It’s become something of a lightning rod in the area, as neighbors have complained about potential uses for the Frank Lloyd Wright-designed house, including as an event space. The most recent idea was to donate it to School of Architecture at Taliesin, but those plans fell through.
To talk more about this, Catherine Reagor, senior housing journalist for the Arizona Republic, joined The Show.
Stuart Graff, president and CEO of the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation, released a statement about the house on Sept. 10:
“The Rawling family came in and rescued the David & Gladys Wright House at a time when the threat to its existence was imminent. In the time they have owned it, they have made great strides in raising awareness of and appreciation for the house that Frank Lloyd Wright designed for his son’s family. We are truly grateful to the Rawling family for saving the house and educating the public about its value to the community.
“All of Wright’s buildings are treasures that teach us how to build better and live more beautiful lives, and it is our hope that all Wright sites end up in the hands of good stewards who will preserve both the buildings and the ideas they advance. Wright’s legacy is inextricably linked to Arizona, and this house that he called ‘How to Live in the Southwest,’ is an integral part of that story. We hope the next owner of the home will embrace this history, and we look forward to working together in partnership to preserve the Frank Lloyd Wright legacy to inspire future generations to build better and live better.”
