Earlier this month, the government settled a lawsuit against a man who’d posted online a blueprint for a 3D-printed, single-shot gun.

The feds had claimed the plans were illegal, but in the end, agreed with the argument that they were protected free speech.

The Show found two perspectives on Monday's settlement, starting with John Hornick. He’s senior counsel to the intellectual property law firm Finnegan. He also does separate consulting work in the 3D printing industry.

For another perspective, The Show turned to Seth Stoughton. He’s a law professor at the University of South Carolina School of Law, where he focuses on the regulation of policing. he’s also a former police officer.
