Arizona Public Service has repeatedly claimed that the Palo Verde nuclear plant would be forced to close if the clean energy for a healthy Arizona ballot measure passes.
Dylan Sullivan is a senior scientist for the Western Region Climate and Clean Energy program. Speaking on the PBS program "Arizona Horizon," he said Palo Verde would not have to close.
“And the reason is that Palo Verde is a low cost energy resource," he said. "So APS would actually turn down higher cost resources like natural gas and other fossil fuels before touching Palo Verde.”
Sullivan said all owners of Palo Verde would have to agree to shut down the plant, not just APS.
