Arizona’s fire season has been mild this year, according to the Department of Forestry and Fire Management. The number of acres burned this year is significantly lower compared to 2017.

As of Friday afternoon, there were three lightning-caused fires burning in the state. The Bruno Fire is the largest, at nearly 4,500 acres near the U.S.- Mexico border.

State forestry spokeswoman Tiffany Davila said at this time last year, more than 350,000 acres had already burned in Arizona. By comparison, the number of acres burned in this year is 89,000

Davila said 80 percent of the fires this year were human-caused.
