As we head toward Arizona’s August primary elections, KJZZ's The Show is inviting the candidates in contested races to talk about why they’re running and some of the key issues in their contests.

Former Air Force officer Wendy Rogers is a candidate for the 1st Congressional District.

She's facing off against Tiffany Shed and Steve Smith in the Republican primary for this seat next month. One of them will take on incumbent Democrat Tom O’Halleran this November.

Rogers has a degree in social work and was one of the first 100 women pilots in the Air Force, flying the C-141 transport jet on airlift and humanitarian missions worldwide. Now she's running as a Trump-era Republican who’s first point of business is to build the wall along our southern border.

In 2016, Rogers ran and lost the Republican primary for this seat to former Pinal County Sheriff Paul Babeu, and she lost to Democrat Kyrsten Sinema in the race for the 9th District in 2014. In fact, this race is her fifth bid for public office.
