A convicted felon has been sentenced to 62 years in prison for a 2013 shooting that wounded a Phoenix police officer.

Brandon McCabe was sentenced Thursday to an aggravated term.

He was convicted in August of attempted first-degree murder, aggravated assault, misconduct involving weapons, criminal trespassing and resisting arrest.

McCabe was accused of shooting officer Peter "Chris" Bennett on the night of Jan. 6, 2013.

The Bennett, 36, survived wounds to his face, right arm and right hip.

Phoenix police say Bennett approached McCabe, who they say ignored the officer's command and the two exchanged gunfire.

McCabe was arrested after being found hiding in a shed. He had gunshot wounds to both hands.
