The FDA has approved the first treatment to help people suffering withdrawal from opioids that is not, itself, an opioid.

The federal agency fast-tracked the pill called Lucemyra, which can be prescribed for up to two weeks. The manufacturer hasn’t yet set a price for the medication, and the FDA is requiring the company to do more studies in targeted populations.

Dr. Frank LoVecchio, an emergency physician and medical toxicologist with Banner University Medical Center and the Banner Poison and Drug Information Center, talked with The Show about the new treatment.
