The Arizona Legislature passed a bill Monday that would increase vehicle registration fees.

The bill authored by Rep. Noel Campbell of Prescott and Sen. Bob Worsley of Mesa and approved by the Senate would raise annual registration fees by about $18 and could increase the cost for alternative fuel vehicles from an average of $41 to $410. It would also generate nearly $150 million per year to fund the Arizona Highway Patrol, the purpose of the increase.
 
The legislation will be transmitted to Gov. Doug Ducey for consideration, however last week Ducey vetoed 10 bills, indicating all other policy issues are on hold until he gets a budget that includes a 20 percent raise for teachers by 2020.
