Phoenix Experiences Record Employment Growth In 2017
The latest job numbers for the Phoenix metro area show record employment growth in 2017.
Christine Mackay, Community and Economic Development director with the City of Phoenix, said the metro region added over 38,000 full-time, non-farm jobs in 2017.
“Where we saw the greatest growth was in education and healthcare hiring," Mackay said. "Another thing we saw, that was really important out of these numbers, was that in 11 of the last 12 months, metro Phoenix has seen an increase in hiring in manufacturing.”
According to Mackay, nearly 2.1 million people are eligible to work in the metro region, the highest level ever recorded.
“The workforce in Arizona has been growing significantly in its educational attainment and its skill sector," she said. "So I would say what is drawing this new job growth in the metro Phoenix area is our incredible talent that has skilled themselves in Phoenix.”
The unemployment rate in Phoenix is at 3.9 percent. That rate is below the U.S. and state averages.
