The last day to apply for Affordable Care Act coverage was Friday, Dec. 15. Arizona healthcare specialists say the final hours of enrollment were a bit hectic.

Across the state, enrollment numbers were already up 16 percent from last year, as of early last week.

Allen Gjersvig is with the Arizona Alliance for Community Health Centers. He said the 800 number for healthcare.gov was experiencing an extremely high volume of calls on Friday.

“They were taking names and they were gonna call you back," Gjersvig said. "So if you were lucky enough to get your name on the list, you can still enroll even though you didn’t complete the application.”

For those who missed the deadline and didn’t get their names in, Gjersvig said it’s too late and the deadline has not been extended.

Those who already had an ACA insurance plan and did not fill out the application will be automatically enrolled in the same plan.
