The Goodwin Fire can be seen as you enter Dewey-Humboldt.

The Goodwin Fire has burned 20,000 acres near Prescott since Saturday, and weather conditions aren’t making containment any easier.

Incident Cmdr. John Pierson said the primary objective now is keeping homes and buildings in the fire’s path safe.

"The prognosis of the fire is we’re dealing some extreme conditions out in the landscape," Pierson said. "We’re focused on point protection of values at risk primarily associated with that area within the Highway 69 corridor.”

The fire has forced the evacuation of the town of Mayer and the closure of State Route 69 between Cordes Junction and Prescott.

Mayer resident Danny Kortenber said he’s a little worried about his home’s safety.

"Well it’s a little discerning, I mean you don’t know," Kortenber said. "At this point we don’t know we’ve been told the fire did not go through our neighborhood, but we don’t know that for a fact, so just not knowing if your home is still there is a little bothersome."
