In a new survey released by Home Instead Senior Care, a senior care provider, nearly half of the 1,000 female caregivers surveyed nationwide say they sometimes have to choose between being a good employee and a good daughter.

"It does show that family caregivers are struggling, it is a real struggle and they need some assistance and guidance as to navigate this caregiving continuum they’re in," said Dawn DeMers, with the organization’s Phoenix office.

The survey also found that 24 percent of self-employed daughters say their decision to work for themselves was linked to caregiving. For those still in the workplace, 23 percent say they found their supervisor to be unsympathetic when it comes to balancing the two roles.
