That gave me the chills. That was a nice little sampling of the horror, gore and thriller genres, with a taste of "Psycho," "American Horror Story" and, of course, "Game of Thrones."

There’s nothing like a good scary story. A lot of people really love horror. And nowadays, the horror genre seems to be bleeding into other genres — no pun intended.

You can now find cringe-worthy scenes in everything from TV shows like “Criminal Minds” to the new Wolverine movie “Logan.”

Some entertainment buffs are even saying we’re in a Golden Age of violence where “torture-porn” is more mainstream.

To explore this idea further, I spoke with Karen Renner, a senior lecturer in American Literature at Northern Arizona University and a horror expert.

And if you can’t get enough thrills, you can get your scary movie fix this week at the 13th-annual International Horror and Sci-Fi Film Festival at the Phoenix Film Festival.
