There have been two federal court rulings over the past two weeks dealing with the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act, and specifically, the use of passwords. The first case, United States v. Nosal, centered on whether a former employee could use a current employee’s user name and password without the company’s knowledge and permission.

The second, Facebook v. Power Ventures, dealt with the social media aggregation site’s collection of users’ passwords.

Jamie Williams is an attorney for the Electronic Frontier Foundation, a digital rights non-profit. She breaks down the cases and what they mean for letting friends and family use your Hulu password.
