You’ve no doubt heard of the biggest canyon in Arizona. The canyon part of the name is preceded by “Grand.” But the state’s second-biggest is less known. Sycamore Canyon was designated a wilderness area in 1972 and has expanded to more than 50,000 acres.

"It's a place that's relatively undiscovered," said Robert Stieve, the Arizona Highways editor. "It's this very massive place that has this great diversity. The canyon basically runs from sort of a riparian area down near Cottonwood up to the forests of Williams."

The magazine features the canyon pominently in the June issue.
