Department of Economic Security, Maricopa County partner on homelessness programs
The Arizona Department of Economic Security is partnering with the Maricopa County Department of Human Services over the next year. Through the agreement, DES will provide funds for the county to administer. The DES funding comes from both federal and state sources, including grant money from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and state lottery funds.
Central Arizona Shelter Services, Native American Connections and UMOM are among the organizations set to receive funding through the new partnership.
This $2 million allocation is just the latest of several large investments the county has put toward homelessness solutions. In total, over the last three years, the county has spent nearly half-a-billion dollars on homelessness programs, mostly funded by federal pandemic relief dollars from the American Rescue Plan Act.
