The Rio Verde Foothills community may be one step closer to regaining a reliable source of water.

On a bipartisan vote, the House passed a bill directing Scottsdale to let the water flow from an existing standpipe. That intergovernmental agreement would be in effect for three years.

House Republican Alex Kolodin says the measure is necessary after much dead-end discourse.

“They tried to work things out with the city of Scottsdale, and the city of Scottsdale was originally reluctant to sign an IGA with the county. After months of effort, Scottsdale became willing to sign an IGA with the county, who previously had been supportive and then at that point, rejected their IGA," Kolodin said.

The bill now heads back to the Senate for a final vote. Rio Verde has been without a steady source of water since January.
