The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers are part of a proposal to boost drought response in Arizona.

Sen. Mark Kelly chaired a congressional subcommittee hearing this week to discuss bringing the Corps on board to build projects related to drought and groundwater management.

“Is the Corps able to move quickly enough to support needed infrastructure investments in the western United States?” Kelly said. “And what more can and should the Corps be doing to address invasive plant species in these rivers, and in these watersheds?”

Kelly said long-term system conservation efforts are key. Senators will have until May 30 to submit additional questions before the proposal moves forward.
