Utah’s governor last month signed into law a measure that’ll require abortions to be performed in hospitals.

Under the new law, the state will stop issuing new licenses to abortion clinics next week; the licenses will be outlawed altogether by next year. The vast majority of abortions in Utah are done in clinics, even though there are only a handful of them in the state.

To find out more about what this new law will do, and what reaction has been to it, The Show spoke with Emily Anderson Stern, statewatch reporter for the Salt Lake Tribune.

The hearing on this new law is scheduled for Friday, with it set to take effect next week. Abortion rights advocates are not happy about the law and what it could mean for access.

Caroline Roberson is the Southwest regional director for NARAL Pro Choice America. The Show spoke with her about what she makes of the new law.
