Former Rep. Harris will be replaced after being expelled from AZ House
After the expulsion of Liz Harris from the Arizona House earlier this week, her former precinct will choose three replacement candidates, and the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors will appoint their pick to serve out the rest of Harris’s term.
Her replacement must be a Republican, but Democratic Supervisor Steve Gallardo says while he’s not looking for a candidate he agrees with on all issues, there are certain standards.
“I do not want a candidate that is pushing false statements, false conspiracies, someone who is undermining our democracy, and is trying to rehash the 2020 presidential election or the 2022 governor’s race," Gallardo said.
Supervisors will also have to choose who will finish the term of outgoing Sem. Raquel Terán. She resigned to kick off her run for Congress.
Meanwhile, GOP leadership has adjourned the legislature for spring break for the next couple of weeks.
