Affordable housing is undoubtedly one of the most pressing issues facing policymakers in Arizona as prices go up and we stare down a massive housing shortage and growing homelessness problem.

But, a major controversial effort to combat the housing crisis at the Arizona Capitol went down in bipartisan flames last week after Republican state Sen. Steve Kaiser had spent months trying to convince stakeholders from all sides that something had to be done.
