What an Arizona economist thinks about a bill targeting minimum wages higher than the state's

Arizona's minimum wage is $13.85 as of Jan. 1, 2023.
Some Arizona lawmakers are looking to help businesses in cities that have a higher minimum wage than the state’s — but they’d do it by potentially hurting those cities’ bottom lines.
Arizona’s minimum is currently $13.85 an hour; Tucson’s is set to rise to $14.25 after the end of the year; and Flagstaff’s minimum wage is $16.80 an hour.
The measure, Senate Bill 1108, would essentially backfill firms that pay their workers more than the state minimum wage.
The Show talked about this idea with Arizona economist Alan Maguire, president of the Maguire Company.
