Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes says she does not plan on challenging a ruling from the state Court of Appeals that allows doctors to perform abortions through the 15th week of pregnancy.

Two laws on abortion access caused confusion in Arizona, as one dating back to the 1800s prevented almost all abortions, while one passed last year blocked the procedure after 15 weeks. 

The appellate court recently ruled that the territorial era law cannot be enforced as there have been a series of laws regulating abortions since the ruling of Roe V. Wade. 

Gov. Katie Hobbs still wants to get rid of the 15-week law, though repealing it would require legislative action.

A voter initiative to put the right to an abortion in the constitution did not get enough signatures in the recent election.

Still Hobbs said she believes there will be strong support for a similar ballot measure in 2024.
