In a press release Tuesday, the Phoenix Union High School District said it was considering the potential role of police presence on campus. Phoenix Union got rid of school resource officers in 2020, after the killing of George Floyd by police in Minneapolis and the unrest that followed.

Now, the governing board’s student safety committee is hosting listening sessions with Phoenix Union staff members, students and their families.

The idea is to gather input on how to make schools safer. The first listening session is Saturday, Dec. 10. Two more will be held in January and February of next year.
