Former state and county prosecutors are calling for a criminal investigation into the Cochise County Board of Supervisors who have not certified the results of the recent election.

Former Maricopa County Attorney Rick Romley and former Attorney General Terry Goddard wrote a letter to the current AG and Cochise county attorney requesting charges against the board members involved.

Romley says doing nothing in this matter would embolden others to do the same, and ignore the duties of government.

“We felt that it was important that we send out a strong message that there is an accountability that you cannot, just because you don’t like the results of an election, that you have an obligation because you are sworn to uphold the law when you took that office," Romley said.

He added that refusing to certify results undermines the elections process and creates more uncertainty around the fairness of elections.

All of the other 14 counties in Arizona certified their results earlier this week.
