Grand Canyon National Park’s water supply moves through a pipeline that was built in the 1960s, but the planning process for upgrading that pipeline is moving forward.

The pipeline breaks frequently during the course of a year, which can lead to water rationing on both sides of the Rim.

The Park Service has already completed an environmental assessment for the project and is seeking public comment on the impact it might have on wetlands.

Workers will replace or or reuse miles of pipeline to build the new system, a process that is expected to take years to complete.

Comments will be taken until just before Christmas.
