A pair of meetings this week in Tucson will look at housing and development issues.

The meetings are part of a larger effort from Tucson’s Commission on Equitable Housing and Development.

Subcommittees meet each month and invite public input on various issues like housing affordability, displacement and availability. The Housing First Subcommittee Wednesday will focus on programs to help people experiencing homelessness get into residences, as the first step to addressing other issues like substance abuse and mental healthcare.

The second, called the Housing Segregation Subcommittee, will meet Thursday to discuss how race, disability and access to opportunity affect housing, neighborhoods and communities.

This month, AZPM reported that Tucson will re-open a lottery system for public housing and Section 8 vouchers next year. A similar program has already been re-opened in Mesa.
