A candidate for the Maricopa County Community College District governing board has suspended his campaign after he was cited for public sexual indecency.

A report from the district police said Randy Kaufman was parked outside Rio Salado College in Surprise on Oct. 4 when an officer approached his truck.

The officer said Kaufman appeared to be holding a cellphone in one hand but then noticed Kaufman’s pants were pulled down and he was fondling himself, with a bicyclist a few feet away and in full view of a nearby child care center.

Kaufman, a Republican, was facing Democrat Kelli Butler for an at-large seat on the district’s board. 12 News reported that Kaufman told the station he is suspending his campaign.
