A man fell to his death on the North Rim of Grand Canyon National park and his body has been recovered, park officials said in statement Saturday.

The park’s communications center received a report of a visitor who fell from a rim near the Bright Angel Point Trail on Friday afternoon.

Park rangers responded to the scene, where they recovered the body of a 44-year-old man who fell about 200 feet. The visitor was off-trail when he fell off the edge.

The National Park Service and Coconino County Medical Examiner’s Office have opened an investigation.

In a statement, Grand Canyon officials remind visitors to exercise caution within the park by staying on designated trails and keeping a safe distance from the edge of the rim.
