Sen. Kelly expresses optimism on water ahead of Election Day

Published: Monday, August 22, 2022 - 10:28am

Democratic U.S. Sen. Mark Kelly spoke with CNN’s “State of the Union” on Sunday about cuts to Colorado River water allotment in Arizona.

Kelly professed optimism for the future, saying the state’s water problem is not existential and that solutions are in place.

“You know, we’ve got other sources of water other than the Colorado River. I mean, this is water from the Salt River," Kelly said while interviewed in front of the Grand Canal. "But the Colorado River is a good amount of our water. It’s important for agriculture. It’s important for communities across the state. But we’re good at solving hard problems and we’re gonna work our way through this one.”

Kelly is running for reelection in November against Republican newcomer and venture capitalist Blake Masters.
