Hermosillo has a water problem. There isn’t enough to keep up with demand. So a group of nonprofits and business organizations are teaming up to push for greater conservation efforts.

With water levels dropping to troubling lows in the state’s reservoirs in recent years, Hermosillo residents have come face to face with the grim reality of having the taps run dry in their homes, offices and schools.

Now, a new collective is calling on residents, businesses and government leaders to do their part to use water responsibly.

During a press conference, leaders of the campaign said their first goal is to raise awareness about what can be done to address water scarcity in Hermosillo. Ultimately, they hope to establish more sustainable habits and policies.

And while the campaign is starting this summer — when water is top of mind for many — the collective says it will be a year round effort to keep public focus on this critical issue.
