Monsoon season is just beginning, but mosquitoes are already carrying the West Nile virus.

Johnny Diloné with Maricopa County Environmental Services says now’s the time for protection against the virus — as there is no cure.

“It’s important for all of us to remember that, especially throughout the monsoon season, we may see an increase in the number of mosquitoes and an increase of infection depending on how the virus behaves,” Diloné said.

Diloné recommends wearing EPA registered insect repellant and ridding your property of standing water that can attract mosquitoes.
