June 9, in the first of a series of public hearings, the U.S. House select committee investigating the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol heard from several witnesses to that day’s events. That day rocked the U.S. public, and its ripple effects are still being felt today.

In the days leading up to the insurrection, Phoenix-based photographer Alberto Mariani had a feeling he needed to be at the Capitol, so he grabbed a flight to Washington, D.C., and put himself in the middle of the action — which wound up being more than he bargained for.

The Show spoke with him to learn about his experience.
