Gov. Doug Ducey may move to push a measure that would allow parents and school officials to ask judges to take guns away from people who are a danger to themselves or others.

Though this isn’t the first time the governor has introduced such legislation. He had similar measures shot down in 2018 and 2019 as the Legislature refused to take it up then.

C.J. Karamargin is Ducey’s press aide.

"We thought then, and still do, it was a common-sense plan that protects the Second Amendment rights for law-abiding citizens while keeping guns out of the hands of dangerous individuals who are a lethal threat," Karamargin said.

While some Republican state Lawmakers have suggested arming teachers in response to the shooting in Texas this week, Ducey has opposed the idea in the past saying school resource officers should be in charge of weapons.
