February report shows slight decrease in AZ sports betting, but still high numbers
Arizonans bet nearly half a billion dollars on sporting events in the month of February, according to a report from the Arizona Department of Gaming.
However, Arizonans only won back about $24 million of the $491 million they put up in the month. That means the state raked in nearly $670,000 in tax revenue.
Although there was a slight dip after January due to football ending, Department spokesperson Max Hartgraves says the industry still fared well.
“All in all it was a good month, I believe we ranked sixth nationally in terms of total handle. So the state is still positioned well within the industry nationally and we have a great future looking forward," Hartgraves said.
Hartgraves added that the majority of betting took place through online platforms instead of sportsbooks.
