Thirteen schools in Arizona make the list for the top 100 high schools in the country in the newest rankings from U.S. News and World Report.

BASIS Chandler, a charter school with about 300 students, is once again the top-ranked high school in Arizona. It comes in at No. 11 in national rankings — last year it had ranked eighth. Several other BASIS charter school locations also make the list for Arizona’s highest scoring schools this year.

The top-performing district-run school in the state is University High School in Tucson, which ranks 28th nationally.

U.S. News and World Report gives rankings to nearly 24,000 public, charter and magnet schools nationwide. The scores are based on college readiness, graduation rates and state assessments, but the rankings also weigh how well students from underserved backgrounds perform at each school.
