Flagstaff Shelter Services soon will be placing people in need of emergency housing in a newly-purchased property.

Executive director Ross Schaefer said because the old property was a former motel it comes with furniture.

The units will start as an emergency shelter for immunocompromised seniors and families. “And as we move through the pandemic in the next couple of years and some of those issues that surround that, the intention is to have these units become more of a permanent supported housing,” said Schaefer.

The 58 units are also equipped with refrigerators and microwaves.

Schaefer expects to serve about 1,000 people over the next year.
