Utility customers sent new members to Salt River Project’s governing bodies in elections Tuesday.

SRP is the Valley’s largest supplier of power and water, and is a self-governing organization with limited oversight from the Arizona Corporation Commission.

Elections among some of the utility’s customers determine certain leadership positions, including board and council members for SRP’s power and water districts.

Candidates running on clean energy platforms did well in the polling. Sierra Club spokeswoman Sandy Bahr said that’s an indication that voters want to see progress on renewable energy.

“It’s pretty amazing and I think a testament to the hard work of the clean energy candidates,” Bahr said.

The votes will be canvassed Monday. The new members take their seats in early May.
