A West Valley city has hit the pause button on its recycling program due to a fire at a facility used by a contractor.

The public works director for El Mirage said the city is watching closely for the facility to become available again.

A spokesperson for El Mirage said the city plans to restart the recycling program eventually. The program’s pause is due to a fire at a recycling facility used by the city’s sanitation contractor Parks & Sons. The company did not respond to multiple inquiries.

The El Mirage recycling program has roughly 10,400 customers.

They’ll get monthly bill credits from the city, and they can still set blue bins on the curb on collection day. But any recyclables inside the containers will be sent to a landfill.
