The state Department of Gaming says Arizonans bet more than $775 million during the first two months of legal sports gambling here.

But all of that only brought the state a little more than $1 million.

That’s because of the prevalence of promotional bets — basically giving gamblers free money. Sportsbooks can deduct those from what they owe the state.

Daniel Wallach is a gaming and sports-betting attorney and founder of Wallach Legal, based in Florida. He also teaches at the University of Miami School of Law and runs the sports wagering and integrity program at the University of New Hampshire School of Law.

The Show spoke with him to learn how the first few months of legal sports gambling in Arizona compare to how other states have done.
