The Kingman Municipal Airport won a $32,000 federal grant to help pay to keep the facility COVID-19-free.

Republican Rep. Paul Gosar sent out a news release saying he’s pleased to announce the awarding of the grant paid for by a bill passed by Democrats.

The money headed for the Kingman airport is from President Biden’s spring rescue package that Gosar voted against.

Kingman issued a news release about the $32,000 transportation grant, which quoted the mayor as being grateful for Gosar’s continuing support.

Then the city sent out a correction in which Mayor Jen Miles said she’s grateful to Democratic Sens. Kyrsten Sinema and Mark Kelly for voting for the bill.

Miles said she knew Gosar voted against it, but noted that Gosar’s office first told Kingman about the grant, he’s supported the airport in the past, and chances to bring federal money to rural Arizona.

Gosar called the grant critical for paying to sanitize the Kingman airport from COVID-19, and vital to having safe air service there.

The comments come days after Gosar said he tried to convince the House of Representatives to end the national emergency due to the pandemic.

Gosar’s office did not reply to a follow up email.
